Different Types of Asphalt Plants

There are generally two types of asphalt plants: continuous asphalt mixing plant and batch type hot mix plant. The batch mix asphalt plant is most suitable for large and medium-sized road construction projects that require high-quality asphalt mixtures. The continuous asphalt plant is suitable for small and medium-sized road construction projects with tight investment.
Capacity
The batch type hot mix plant is of large capacity, ranging from 60t to 400t/h. The capacity of the continuous asphalt plant varies between 20t/h and 100t/h. In addition , the batch mix asphalt plant is of higher efficiency. Each batch only needs about 45s.
Structure
Once the continuous asphalt plant starts working, it will produce asphalt mixture in a consistent manner. Aggregate drying, heating and mixing are all carried out in the drum. Compared with batch type hot mix plant, continuous asphalt plant has a simple structure because it does not have a mixing tower and lifting system, therefore it requires less land and less investment.
Metering
The batch type hot mix asphalt measures the material according to the weight. Each size of aggregate is measured independently, so it is more accurate. The continuous asphalt plant measure by volume, which is not as accurate as the batch mix asphalt plant.
Mixing
For the batch type hot mix plant, the materials (aggregate, filler, asphalt, additives, if necessary) are mixed in a double-shaft blade mixer and mixed in batches, so the mixing effect is uniform. In addition, the batch cycle can be shortened or extended according to the quality of the finished asphalt. More importantly, the material formula can be adjusted very quickly and easily.
All in all, the batch type hot mix plant is an ideal equipment for producing high-quality and specially formulated asphalt mixtures, such as drainage asphalt, polymer modified asphalt, emulsified asphalt and RAP materials.
